Katydid™ Wood Stove Reviews
More Heat From Less Wood™
"We Just Love Our Katydid™ Wood Stove...
We just love our Katydid wood stove! It heats our home so efficiently. So easy to use, easy to keep clean and best of all keeps our home so cozy warm.
"We Have Been Very Happy With Our Katydid™ Stove...
We have been very happy with our Katydid stove purchased in 2020. We built a very energy efficient 1000sq/ft passive solar “shouse” in 2020 and chose the katydid because of its high efficiency, very low emissions, and small size, given the low btu needs of our space. It radiates a lot of heat and the tiny logs last a long time, we only needed around 1 cord for each of the last couple mild southern Iowa winters with this being the only primary heat source besides the southern windows on the house. It also holds coals pretty well, generally we could wake up to a warm stove easy to re- stoke, leaving some ash to insulate the coals helps. When cutting and splitting just 1 cord of wood for the winter, it is not a chore at all, it’s a joy at that volume. The glass door is great for sitting and flame watching. It has been a positive ownership experience! Thanks Roger and Vanessa!

"Customer Service Was Readily Available...
I’m so glad I bought a Katydid woodstove. From the very beginning, customer service was readily available for helpful advice on how much chimney I needed to buy, how to install, how to build a fire, etc. They helped every step of the way. It has been a learning curve for me to learn how to build a fire in the Katydid (which is a little different from the old woodstove). I bought my Katydid last year and I just completed some maintenance tasks this year (cleaning chimney, replacing the door gasket, etc).
Customer service has proven just as important and valuable to me as the woodstove itself. I am able to get the most out of this Katydid woodstove because I’m able to get questions answered and receive helpful advise. Vanessa and Roger continue to be awesome and very helpful every step of the way. I love my Katydid woodstove and I hope someday to get to meet the wonderfully helpful Vanessa and Roger. Note: I am currently enjoying bacon, potatoes, and egg that I cooked on my Katydid.

"The Stove Is Absolutely Perfect...
We have been building a tiny house and have been absorbing all the information we can about sustainable living and living off-grid. So, you could say, we’re in the process.
For now we live in a modestly sized home (about 1200-1500 sq. ft.) and have been interested in getting a wood stove to provide some additional heat.
In our tiny house research we came across the Kimberly stove and noticed that she had a bigger sister that would fill the need for our home – a lot of heat from a little box.
Well, we were planning to wait a little while to buy, but after talking to Vanessa, we were hooked. The idea that we could install it ourselves with a little help from Roger and Vanessa was very exciting.
Unfortunately (tee hee), when the stove arrived, it was clear that this piece of engineering was more than just that it was art. What this meant was that we were no longer satisfied with where we decided to place it initially. It took us a little longer to get in place, but only because we wanted to give it a setting to match its magnificence…
Since installation, we have had the Katydid running nonstop. The temperature has been consistently well below freezing and primarily between 10 above and 10 below zero. Typically in those situations, our normal furnace cannot keep up and is constantly trying. Not only has this been changed by having our Katydid, but sometimes the furnace has been able to stand down since the Katydid was doing all the heavy lifting. We have had several instances of being almost too warm!
The stove is absolutely perfect. It is gorgeous and well-made. We love it and we love Roger and Vanessa also as they were always available and consistently responsive.

"I have Been The Contentedly Warm Owner Of A Katydid Stove For About 9 Months Now...
I have been the contentedly warm owner of a Katydid stove for about 9 months now; enough of a winter to more than get acquainted with the small(ish) stove. I say smallish because I’ve owned smaller, but more on that later. Before getting into some details let me say how pleased I am with Unforgettable Fire and the Katydid. Fit and finish on the stove is excellent.
Roger came up to install the stove and has been more than willing to answer any question I’ve had along the way. Top notch customer service! The Katydid is installed in a 35 foot 5th wheel that spends most of its time at a camp on the west face of the Cascade mountains in the Pacific Northwest. I know, not ‘real’ winter (I grew up in Minnesota), but cold enough to require a reliable heating source to keep the ice off the top of the water glass. Most of the wood burned is not hardwood but tending towards soft, like alder, tamarack, and pine.
I’ve spent about a third of the winter in the trailer and have not yet needed to clean the approximately 14 foot chimney stack. In my opinion, the stove is living up to its clean burning claims. Heat production is very good. After the trailer has come up to temperature, I rarely run the air flow control all the way open. I get about a 3 hour ‘practical’ burn time when the air control is closed down.
By practical I mean there are plenty of coals remaining to easily start a new load of wood but the stove has not cooled down enough to become really noticeable. Not bad considering what I’m feeding it. To those used to burning full sized stoves, these numbers may not seem all that impressive. But to me they are. Compared to the stove that the Katydid replaced (from a Canadian manufacturer with about a 1X1X1 foot burn box) that I always ran wide open, got about a 2 hour practical burn time, and had to clean the stack after about 6 weeks of use, I’m very pleased…
In conclusion, I have no hesitation in recommending the Katydid stove from Unforgettable Fire to anyone needing a clean burning reliable stove for a smaller sized heating area.

"The Install Was Pretty Straightforward...
"You Will Enjoy This Purchase...
The ambiance that the Katydid Wood Stove provides keeps me very happy all Winter long. It’s truly another dimension. When I first light it up in the cool Fall, something akin to the sacred happens. A silence falls as the embers blaze heralding a season of peace. This experience is so much valued that we put in many long hours making firewood so it can be enjoyed year after year. The Katydid is to Winter like flowers are to Summer each bringing their own precious joys. It creates a lot of warmth. Sometimes you even have to open the windows. Last Winter when it got to 8 degrees for 3 days, the 1st day I used both my fireplace & the Katydid. The fireplace was a horrible log hog. So the next day only the Katydid was used. AND, guess what. The Katydid alone kept the home much warmer than using both the fireplace and the Katydid because the fireplace not only being a log hog let all the heat go up the chimney. Plus the customer service can’t be beat. You will enjoy this purchase.
